Tea Cups
Jian kiln JianZhan firing technique is a local traditional technique in Nanping City, Fujian Province, which is one of the national intangible cultural heritages. JianZhan is the original name of Chinese teacups, which was called Tianmu after it was introduced to Japan in the Song Dynasty, therefore, JianZhan is also known as Tianmu teacups in the West and Japan.
Due to the special nature of the firing process, each JianZhan has different patterns and styles, and due to the different brewing of different types of tea, JianZhan will change over time with a variety of different colorful patterns, so JianZhan is also gradually becoming popular among tea drinkers, and it is a treasure not to be missed by tea enthusiasts or art collectors.
JianZhan is 100% edible, but should not be used in microwave ovens due to the high iron content in the clay of the body.
The high firing temperature (about 1300 degrees Celsius), the reduction, the high iron content and the crystallization pattern all contribute to the high failure rate of JianZhan. It is very rare to find JianZhan with such a uniform and beautiful glaze.
